2010/06/20 - 24 Conceptualization of Modelling Methods Workshop at CAiSE - London

D. Karagiannis co-Chair, A. Bergmayr, D. Plexousakis PC-members

This workshop concentrates on the conceptualization, i.e., early development phases down to the actual implementation of modelling methods and how contemporary meta-modelling concepts and modern platforms address challenges that arise during a holistic modelling method life-cycle. In this way, the aim of the workshop is to bring together researchers and practitioners for discussing the development and application of modelling methods in arbitrary application domains and the engineering of modelling methods on meta-modeling platforms.

2010/05/20 CfP: Workshop Open Knowledge Models (OKM 2010) at EKAW 2010

OKM 2010 at EKAW 2010

OKM 2010 at EKAW 2010

Topics of Interest:
The workshop is open to all relevant topics such as but not limited to:

  • Process Oriented Knowledge Management
  • Service Oriented Knowledge Management
  • Knowledge Management Modelling
  • Knowledge Engineering Modelling
  • Knowledge-Bus Technology

Motivation and Objectives:
When analysing the transformation of the information society to a knowledge society an industrialisation of knowledge work can be observed. The maturity, the quality, the process-orientation and the alignment of knowledge to personal or organisational requirements are industrialisation aspects covered by knowledge work. This workshop focuses on process-orientation, based on its evolution over service-orientation towards virtualisation and sees the current industrialisation of knowledge work as a challenge that needs to be tackled not only on social and technical level but also on a conceptual level. As an expression of the maturity the knowledge work can be modelled in form of knowledge motivation, routines, situations, structure and vocabularies, elements and tools.
These models can either be expressed in a formal way to be preferably interpreted by machines in the context of Knowledge Engineering, or can be expressed in a semi-formal – often graphical – way to be preferably interpreted by humans in the context of Knowledge Management. We experience a new level of knowledge maturity and industrialisation of knowledge work and its model representation in both fields; Knowledge Engineering and Management. Technological phenomena such as Internet of Things and Internet of Services as well as technology such as service-orientation, virtualisation and mash-ups enable to develop orchestration like knowledge conveyer belts, semantic workflows or knowledge buses.
These technologies are introduced as a realisation framework of process-oriented and service based knowledge management. This approach may be an answer for the requirements of industrialisation of knowledge work that keeps the “human in the loop” and enables the alignment of business and knowledge.
As industry and academia need to keep track with the fast evolution of knowledge work, this workshop has been initiated to create an open knowledge model platform. This open knowledge model platform has a role for knowledge intensive organisations similar to open source platforms have for the software development companies: an open shared space for knowledge models and knowledge modelling languages.
This workshop calls for scientific and practical papers on

  • business and knowledge alignment,
  • knowledge-intensive business modelling,
  • knowledge management modelling,
  • modelling languages and the deployment of modelling languages in a meta model environment or
  • deployment of models in an infrastructure and tool environment.

The results of the workshop will be used to kick-off an open knowledge model platform as a collaboration platform for communities, a technology hub and model repository for Knowledge Management Process Orchestration under the umbrella of the Open Model Initiative (www.openmodels.at).

Sustainability:
The community created in the workshop is invited to kick-off the Open Knowledge Model (OKM) project within the Open Models Initiative (www.openmodels.at), by creating, inviting and linking to a large community in the field of process oriented knowledge management.

Targeting Audience:
The workshop targets the industrial and academic community to publish and share models on knowledge management, provide best practices, lessons learned and commonly work on reference processes for using, interpreting and managing knowledge.
Academic community is invited to publish studies, concepts, prototypes and solutions for modelling languages and meta-modelling languages to describe, formalise or externalise knowledge and knowledge management.

Venue, Costs and Participation:
All workshop participants have to register to the main conference EKAW and to the workshop at http://ekaw2010.inesc-id.pt/.
Paper Style: Papers for the workshop proceedings have to use Springer LNCS style: http://www.springer.com/computer/lncs?SGWID=0-164-6-793341-0.
All papers must be uploaded at EasyChair OKM 2010: http://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=okm2010.
